Saipurnima - Meaning ,Significance and Method

Author is PRIYANKA RAUTELA.DHANKAR on Friday, July 15, 2011

Sairam and very happy Gurupunima but I like to call it Sai purnima because Sai is my Guru .Today My main aim to write this post is to make my fellow devotees aware about certain things which are important for all of us to remember .

As we all know that Sai purnima is a very auspicious day for all Sai children but most of us don't know as what is Gurupurnima or why it is celebrated and what all should be done on this day .So today may be by the grace of my Sathguru I am publishing this post answering all your questions .

Saipurnima :- Guru(Sai) Purnima is the day of full moon called purnima in Hindi,It is the full moon day   of Ashadh Month (June–July) .This is the day when we express our love, respect and gratitude, towards our spiritual master "Sathrugu Sainath Maharaj".

Baba is our Guru because we all living in the jungle (this world) we don't know when we will be eaten by others or may be we will get lost in this big horrible world but if have a guide (Guru) then he will take us straight to our destination .Baba will remove all kinds of darkness (here by darkness I mean Maya) from our lives and will make us happy and safe . (read in chapter number II,Sai Satcharita -Necessity of a Guru ).So today is our Baba's day or say Gurupurnima .So today we must recommit ourselves to follow the path and guidance showed by our Baba and if you want to ask anything from Him then ask for spiritual upliftment rather then material upliftment.

Significance of Saipurnima:-

Once in 1908 Sai Baba asked His devotee Shri Dada Kelker that do you know what is today ?today is the day to approach your Gurus .Shri Dada Kelker and his friend looked up the calendar and found that it was Gurumurnima day .We went and brought their worship articles and started worshipping Baba as their Guru .Since then this practice has continued in Shirdi and even till today its there .Its a very holy day for all devotees of Baba .

Ways to celebrate Sai Purnima:-

Saipurnima is your day with Baba so you should celebrate this beautiful day as you want it because Sai always gives freedom to His children to choose their own ways of doing puja. But still if you want little guidance on this then following are some points which can be considered :-

1.Give holy bath with milk ,honey and water (ganga jal if possible) to Sai photo or statue .Store the water which flows down and sprinkle it all over in your home.

2.Make Baba wear new cloths with chandan tika and fresh flowers garland .

3.Light at least one diya with pure ghee and rest with oil ,light as many as you can because Sai always loved prakash (light ) that was the reason he use to light diyas everyday like Diwali .

4.Make something sweet in prasad .Offer to Baba first and then to all your family members .I made chocalate cake today for Sai in prasad .He even asked me for a cup of tea in the morning but had intimated me in the night only in my dream will share this in my coming post in fact much more happened with me last evening .

5.Offer food to those who are hungry please don't waste your money in donations to Mandirs .Best is to donate it with your own hands to poors and needy .

6.Read Sai Sathcharitra and try to grab the nectar of knowledge .

7.In the evening again do Baba's arti and offer Him dinner and request Sai to bless all with spiritual
upliftment, and before going to bed please surrender your ego (Mai) in the feet of Sathguru Sainath Maharaj.

Gururbrahmaa gururvishnuh gururdevo Maheswarah |
Guruh-saakshaat parambrahma tasmai shrigurave namah |

Please accept Sai purnima greetings from me and my family .Have a blessed day !!
